Mock Trial Camp: "All rise!" Grab your briefcases. It's time for mock trial camp! Middle school students act as witnesses and attorneys to argue cases involving their favorite characters. Students read and analyze witness statements, then work collaboratively to develop arguments for both sides and develop strategies to question the witnesses. Students gain a basic understanding of the justice system and trial protocol as well.

Mock trial is one of the best activities for teaching critical thinking and persuasive speaking, and it's fun, too! Mock trial provides the opportunity for students to put together a coherent argument for their side of the case using furnished testimonial and physical evidence. The comprehensive approach includes reading a case summary, trial briefs, and witness statements in order to prepare and argue a persuasive case.

Mastery of Interpretation Speaking: Want to improve your story-telling skills? Welcome to the world of interpretation! This speech competition event focuses on story structure, character analysis, and advanced acting to create championship-level interpretation performances. Students use a play, short story, or other published work, to perform a selection of one or more portions of a piece up to ten minutes in length. With a spotlight on character development and depth, dramatic interpretation focuses on a student’s ability to convey emotion through the use of a dramatic text. Humorous interpretation is designed to test a student’s comedic skills through script analysis, delivery, timing, and character development. Competitors may portray one or multiple characters. This camp is highly recommended for those who plan to compete in speech during the 2022-2023 school year, either in middle school or high school. Due to the intimate nature of the class, activities can be individualized for the benefit of each student. The class will review grammar basics and provide practice developing written ideas from a thesis statement to topic sentences to completed essays and narratives. This will be a fun, interactive and non-academic environment. It's summer!

Attending the Ready, Set, Read camp will help your child complete their required summer reading assignment. All supplies will be provided, including snacks. Once the project is complete, students will be able to participate in fun and engaging games that boost vocabulary and comprehension. Just drop off your student with their book read, and I will take care of the rest. I will even distribute projects to teachers at the beginning of the school year. *Please make sure your child has read their book before attending and that they bring the book to the camp. **This camp is for returning Faith students. Students new to Faith are not required to complete the summer reading assignment.
