Faith Gives is an annual event in which Faith students, faculty, family and friends serve in our community. Students serve at women’s shelters, homeless missions, food banks, nursing homes, and more.
Grapevine Faith exists to develop and graduate authentic Christian leaders. Faith Gives supports our mission by instilling in our students a strong sense of their roles in the community, church and family. Students learn the importance of serving others and are exposed to service opportunities that exist throughout our community.
Thanksgiving Basket Outreach
Each year at Thanksgiving, the Junior High Student Council sponsors a Thanksgiving Basket Community Outreach. This effort is directed to the neighbors who live around our school, specifically those who may not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal. The annual outreach is made possible through the generosity of Faith families who support the cause by sponsoring baskets and donating turkeys. Last year we were able to provide over 125 Thanksgiving Baskets to our neighbors in need.
“Pure religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” - James 1:27
Taking our motivation from James 1:27, the 7th grade Bible classes write to widows and senior citizens through the year as a way of encouragement. Because Valentine’s Day can be difficult for widows, the students plan, organize,and serve breakfast to the ladies near that time. They serve in various capacities including decorating the tables, making pancakes, serving food, greeting, even sitting with the ladies and visiting at their tables. The idea is to communicate that Jesus loves them and so do we. A highlight each year is when the ladies play BINGO for prizes. The tradition was launched in 2010 and has provided students opportunities to share their drama and musical talents with the ladies as well an opportunity for students to learn about the art of serving others.
The elementary school participates in a ministry that gives to the community by partnering with G.R.A.C.E. to help parents that are having a tough time financially to give their own children gifts for Christmas. Each child is given a J.O.Y. (Jesus Others Yourself) cup and asked to work for donations that will be brought to their class. The first week of December, the students go shopping for items that have been requested and then deliver them to the G.R.A.C.E. Christmas Cottage.
It is our desire that each student develop a genuine attitude of serving others in our community. All high school students must complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service per year as a requirement for their Bible class. Students not completing the required hours will have 10 points deducted from their 4th quarter Bible grade. All community service hours must be obtained from our Approved Community Service Opportunities List. We know that there are many other organizations in the community that are not on this list. Should students choose to acquire community service hours somewhere other than those on the approved list, they must complete a pre-approval form and return it to Judy Davis in the high school office.
