Class of 2013 Grad Pens Blog About Being a Reading Mentor for Refugee Students

Emily Anderson Zaldivar, Class of 2013, says her experience with a reading program for refugees reminds her of Psalm 34:8, which reads, “Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”

"Amani keeps coming (to Reading Circle)," Emily said in a blog post. "I don’t know for sure why, but part of me wonders if Psalm 34:8 might have something to do with it ... There is something attractive to her about Reading Circle. While the candy prizes might satisfy a sense of earthly goodness, we get to read and talk about God’s true & eternal goodness too."

The Reading Circle is part of Refugee Resources, an organization in DFW that looks to support the needs of the refugee community in Dallas.

The Reading Circle serves refugee students ages 6 to 18 through one-on-one mentoring focused on literacy, math, and spiritual growth. Each session includes reading Bible stories, prayer, and scripture memory.
